A Theory (Incorrect "You are not authorized to replicate or copy data from this database." - replica error.)

I have an unproven theory regarding this error (which I get a lot when working remotely). If you have those specific rights in the Db ACL, but via a group membership (i.e. the group is in the ACL not you specifically) and you are replicating locally, you may get those problems because that group with those rights does not exist locally.

I've found that even though I was in a group that had manager rights (and replication rights) in the ACL I usually had to add myself specifically to the ACL and give myself these rights, if I was working on a local replica remotely.

I don't know if this is a red herring yet. I'll keep plugging and see.
